England is the oldest national football team in the world with Scotland and the two teams played in the first international football match in 1872. England are under the control of The Football Association.

The two major competitions England compete in are the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Football Championships. England won the World Cup in 1966, when they were the host nation. They defeated West Germany 4-2 after extra time. Their best performance since in the World Cup was a semi final appearance in 1990.

England have never won the UEFA European Football Championship and their best performances has been semi final appearances at the 1968 and 1996 Championships.

England’s manager is Roy Hodgson who will lead them in their quest to qualify for the next World Cup Finals.
