Swansea City are currently the only Welsh football club to play in the Premier League.
Formed in 1912 as Swansea Town, they joined the Football League in 1921. They changed
their name to Swansea City in 1969 when Swansea became recognised as a city.
Swansea City are one of the most successful clubs in Welsh football and have won
10 Welsh Cups. In 1981 they finished 6th in the First Division (now the Premier League).
This is their highest ever League finish.
Swansea used to play their home games at the Vetch Field but moved to the Liberty
Stadium in 2005, which they share with the Ospreys Rugby Club. They have a fierce
rivalry with Cardiff City but now they are in different leagues they would only clash
if drawn together in one of the cup competitions. Season 2012-13 sees the appointment
of a new manager, Michael Laudrup, who will be keen to build on the relative success
of previous manager, Brendan Rodgers.
